EXT. SUBURBAN HILLSIDE PARK - DAY

Suddenly two arms spring down from the overhead tree to grab and tickle the girl. CELESTE squeals with delight. CELINE hangs upside down by her knees from a branch.
ERNEST maintains their balance...

ERNEST walks forward out of range of her reach, gets low allowing a giddy CELESTE to get off his shoulders. He turns around to see...

He /hoists up the full BAG by the tree.

Dis hill's okay - but it's infested with monkeys.
CELINE picks up CELESTE in a hug and spins around.

ERNEST looks at his forearm that's holding the BAG...
We've still got a bit of time.
Pulls out the BLANKET on top...
CELESTE, want to find a spot?
Hands the BLANKET to CELESTE who runs off with it to find a picnic spot.

CELINE locks arms with ERNEST's free arm, and lead saunters them towards CELESTE.

...thinking about other things. Not been present. Everything was running along fine and now I just don't... I didn't expect the fade out. Most projects build to a delivery. Sudden, dramatic, permanent, faded. I no longer have a career.

We'll be fine, no matter what happens. Not everyone has made two enormous contributions like you have. You're luckier than most.
Can't vHOPE help you?
Template:Bittersweet Seeds: Characters: Ernest
I'm sure I have another one in me. I'm not dead yet. And vHOPE is the problem. My goals, tasks, and responsibilities have been absorbed by the hive. I'm a tool and slave of my own making. What's the point of doing anything when the A.I.s can do it better? What's the point of building Synthetic Wisdom™ if it's going to make you obsolete?
Template:Bittersweet Seeds: Characters: Celine
What does vHOPE say - as a counselor, manager, as your friend?
ERNEST and CELINE are just watching as CELESTE is having trouble laying out the BLANKET in the breeze. Eventually CELESTE places the bag and motions her parents to a corner each - before they all sit down on the picnic BLANKET.

I'm just so sick of vHOPE, I've been avoiding it. I can't tell if I'm the dog or the tail or what's being wagged anymore. We've become pets of the warring systems. In trying to be valuable I've helped make everything meaningless as the establishments battle over faded figments and artificially engineered drama after they've deconstructed everything meaningful to distract us from their gluttony.
And the best vHOPE can come up with is to turn me into some kind of "consulting" celebrity. Infamous only for being on the team that helped launch vHOPE. Is that biased?
How can consulting be a fulfilling career shift from statistics? I like stats and math. I don't like people. Present company excepted.
I can't tell if my glory days are behind me or if I'm just suffering existential angst and post-natal depression.
I'm just so tired of vHOPE.

So... a trial separation from your other wife?
Template:Bittersweet Seeds: Characters: Ernest
They all begin unpacking the picnic BAG.

To CELESTE
To CELINE
Minimizing - to the max. For now. I'm afraid there's no escaping vHOPE.

Right, post-natal - for birthing a global hive mind? Whatever. You're finally back with us. Like it or not. You found your way home, back to us. Now find yourself. Re-find the refined.

Yes, I do like it. And you're right. But that's not all...

Punch Ups
Punch ups (comedy) may refer to adding jokes to a script to elevate and improve its quality and depth. Punch ups (comedy) can also mean comedy that is punching up at an adversary who has greater power or status then themselves (ie. "speaking truth to power"), contrary to punching down at easy weaker targets with less agency (ie. making fun of or attacking the poor, disabled, minorities, migrants, etc). In this case, I'm referring to the former, comedic improvements, not that latter despite that being the ideal prime overarching theme of this story (punching up against the rigged systems).
In this first draft, for the sake of clarity and brevity I won't be attempting to add too much distracting humour. I don't intend to to make this a comedy, yet I hope very much to add humour throughout the movie, to any character where naturally appropriate. I would like Ernest to be as funny as he is brilliant in the first half of the movie, and then Act 2B onward he will be a different person (for self-evident reasons), yet he'll be in the same world, with folks who have not changed. Act 2A, will be an especially fine line for Ernest, who still has a sense of humour, but has lost a close mentor, yet puts on a brave face for his family - including levity.
