Feature wish lists

Visit /s/IdeasForMatrix[ GoatMatrix ] for initial instances of ideas with discussions. This topical sub-forum thread may be aggregated here into practical reference wiki-lists.

This short wiki-list will naturally grow in time and be relocated to Goat Matrix/Tech ideas for organized wish lists for developing future features.

Items marked with an asterisk* could potentially be organized on this wiki.

Alphabetical for now, but will likely be sectioned into related categories.

  • Batch-Posts for anyone anytime (busy at work but listening to good stuff) or especially useful for heavy daily users. This is a brand new idea never mentioned anywhere else before. The purpose is akin to Post-Whenever to help throttle excessive posting dominance. Batch-Posts would be 1) a big list of link-posts by a single user, 2) each link-post with a thumbnail image, 3) each link-post with voting options, and 4) each link-post goes in a sub or set of cross-post categories/metatags/multisubs/subs/topics. All link-posts within a Batch-Post would be "silently" posted - hidden from the front page - into their subs or multi-subs. People may only discover each link-post within the Batch-Posts OR find the link-posts in their appropriate subs - but not the front page - UNLESS there was enough positive voting and comment support to earn visibility. Once visible it would be like any other link-post, but with a couple additional details: what Batch-Post it came from, and what multi-subs it's shared in.
    • Another related feature idea: Akin to having a blog, or post history, rather than subs users could have Batch-Post histories. On the front page they might have a "BP" beside their name. For example: JasonCarswellBP. Alternatively, the post-links could appear like any other in the post history with the addition of the "BP" or a BP icon that could be clicked to see the "parent" Batch-Post.
    • There would be pros and cons to letting Batch-Post have comments on the whole collection of post-links - verses - comments only under the post-link posts.
  • Chronological list of comments, site-wide from all posts, so folks make know about conversations they've missed - as is on Comments[ SaidIt ]. (This will be useful for community building until there are simply too many comments and threads to keep up with - after which may still be useful for sub-wide communities and their growth.)
  • Documentation for a FAQ (Goat Matrix/FAQ) - as I documented on wiki[ SaidIt ]
  • Documentation for CSS (Goat Matrix/CSS and Goat Matrix/Themes) and eventually theme selection and/or sharing capabilities - along with popularity statistics.
  • Documentation for basic to advanced Markdown code (Goat Matrix/Goatdown,) - as I documented on wiki/Commenting[ SaidIt ]
  • Draft compositions. Save your stuff to work on later. Not critical, but might be nice.
  • GoatMatrix search options - perhaps via Cassandra Team decentralized search engines.
  • MetaVote™ has its own section below.
  • Post-Whenever edit-ability - for a user to manage their list of pending posts, re-order, post asap, post at a specific time/date, or delete. Drag and drop would be ideal.
  • Timestamp optional display on/off for chat comments - more than just roll-over.
  • Timestamps for posts and comments, optional display on/off, but always revealed by hovering over dates (more specific than "3 years ago").

MetaVote™

MetaVote™

MetaVote™ for voting and tagging system for deeper analytics, algorithms, and better search results. A 5x5 grid with "Meh-Neutral" in the center and in the corners opinion extremes: Wise, Daft, Joy, and Disgust. With five degrees from any corner to any corner, midway between Wise and Funny is Witty, among the 25 options. Similarly metatags and sub-metatags could be organized for quick tagging of posts and comments - or be utilized as admin tools or other things.

MetaVote™ could look something like this, at right, but MUCH better - plus I added another row just to see with save/record, up, null, down, flag/tag/note. This page features wiki tables just to crudely illustrate the concept. Good graphic design would make it all much more aesthetically pleasing.

Community direction

More soon.

Steering is critically important or the default turns rotten.

Cultivating community requires more than just default organic growth into chaos. Careful pruning results in a beautiful bonsai tree worth the effort and earned respect that will attract like minded folks, as well as the unpleasant who must be trimmed.

Policy wish lists

More soon.

A general rule of thumb for better policy:

  • Very few rules, all clearly black and white, all strictly followed and enforced.
  • Many guidelines, if any needed, for the grey areas, with an abundance of examples for reference. (We don't need to ban the gutter to encourage folks not to gutter-dwell.)

Nothing specific needs attention currently.

If this develops into a list it may be relocated to Goat Matrix/Organization for organizing principles, guides, and rules.

Public relations

Here's a plan, open to improvement. Feedback welcomed.

This is a do-ocracy and you have 4 options: 1) help out, 2) do your own thing, 3) bitch, 4) do nothing.

Even taking the occasional baby-step in a good direction is progress. We should progress as fast as we can, but take it as slow as necessary to get the best results and fewest mistakes.

Priority: Don't jump the gun. Do not use promotional materials to hype Goat Matrix until it's determined they are ready. If in doubt, don't. It will be made clear what is ready and when. For any organization it may not only be detrimental but extra work to overcome looking like an unorganized shit-show.

Step 1: Dedicate the 2026 season of Spring to developing some strong branding - logo, mascot, colour schemes, guides, documentation, etc. (This could take half a year.)

Step 2: Improve the appearance and functionality - GUI ergonomics, roadmap new features even if not building any time soon, design dream themes with new features (visualizing goals), CSS themes.

A makeover will appeal to more folks (for better and worse). They'll need documentation to understand what to expect, what's expected, and technical help.

Step 3: Document everything as clearly as possible (like I'm 5) for all types of folks. Some freedom movement folks are older and/or not adept with technology.

With more participation hopefully x0x7 will reduce the post/bonus meddling More folks may be a catalyst for donations for x0x7 (and maybe part-time work for those capable of working on projects - like code-bounties and PR-campaigns).

Step 4: Utilizing the new branding and GUI, develop welcoming campaign(s) with media content for various uses and audiences. These invitations won't be aimed for general riffraff audiences, they'll be curated to the good folks we hope to engage with on the regular, all seeking sanctuary, truth-seeking, and free-thinking - wishing to escape the enslavement asylum, current crises, and looming apocalypse.

Goals: Get all our ducks in a row via a real cooperative community effort.

  1. Appearance: Get a facelift - branding, ergonomics, GUI.
  2. Documentation: Draft press releases, goals, plans, roadmaps, rules, etc.
  3. Features: Fix glitches, add features, repeat.
  4. Production: Develop branding, campaign, media ads, interviews, etc.
  5. Release: Invite the masses and open the gates of hell and high discourse.
  6. Refine: Don't stop tweaking to perfection. New features, new communities, new campaigns, new promo material, spin-offs, etc. Creativity, like forums and info-resources, should have no end.
