My first television series pitch

Full article: My first television series pitch

In the afternoon (2023-03-06), I (Jason Carswell) submitted my 3 pitches to their online submission form: https://TV1.Wufoo.com/forms/z1ln7v5g06fp9qe

That evening, a couple gentlemen from TV1 (subscription television owned by Bell Media (of Bell Canada)) visited the Windsor Media Center to present their production histories, explained how as television producers they are accepting series pitch submissions, and held five-minute personal face-to-face meetings with everyone who presented a series concept.

The producers explained that TV1 will:

  1. provide all the professional filmmaking gear required
  2. provide a modest budget
  3. sponsors are permitted, but not advertising
  4. broadcast the series on TV1 for 90 days
  5. after 90 days the series belongs 100% to the series creator(s)
  6. creators may share it elsewhere (YouTube, etc) but TV1 may not fund additional seasons absent TV1 promotion

They said they would return to Windsor in July, then November - and finally made it next July, 2024.

Logline

A logline (aka elevator pitch) is a one or two line plot summary:

Key Jangling (working title) is a reality-television documentary series that follows the workshop development and production of an original short animated video by autistic adult student Jarrod Osborne (and maybe other videos by more Essex County students) under the developmental supervision and tutelage of professional animator Jason Carswell, glimpsing some pros and cons to filmmaking in Windsor, Ontario, with community support.

Maple Fringe Majority, television series pitch

The Fringe Majority demands to be heard.

In the face-to-face with John Buffone (mentioned above), it was agreed that an authentic documentary format is preferable to dramatizations (and easier). Thus, I've focused on that premise and expanded it further in my Maple Fringe Majority, television series pitch.

Logline

The Maple Fringe Majority television series consists of reflections from diverse free-thinkers and truth-seekers from Windsor and Essex County who've formed freedom and prepper communities, sharing political analysis and critical insights on local, national, and global issues, while showing how to organize, take action, find alternatives, and spread solutions to improve our communities, region, Canada, and our planet Earth to better resist, survive, and thrive in the face of the undemocratic monopolistic tyrannical new world order threatening our freedoms and futures.

The Rendezvous, television series pitch

The Rendezvous Tavern with strategically designed look-out windows.
Full article: The Rendezvous, television series pitch ~ by Jason Carswell, 2023

Based on The Rendezvous, an unpublished feature screenplay by Jason Carswell.

Logline

Respecting life, sacrifice, and a diamond treasure, The Rendezvous, a dramatic television series, centers around a fictional Black family's circumstances and drama across three generations working at a local historical roadhouse through three Windsor-Detroit intense events - rum-running of the 1920s, war-time riots of 1943, and the "peace"-time riots of 1967 in "Motown". Without being preachy or pedantic, issues like prejudice, domestic abuse, organized crime, fairness and ethics, personal autonomy, musical trends, and motor vehicles are fairly addressed and dramatized in evolving morals and culture across the decades.

Truth In Topics (working title), television series pitch

Truth In Advertising.
Full article: Truth In Topics, television series pitch ~ by Jason Carswell, 2023

Logline

Inspired by the Truth in Advertising short film by Tim Hamilton, this Truth In Topics (working title) satirical television comedy series critically deconstructs existing realities, conceptions, and misconceptions with a non-partisan deep understanding of the topics at hand. Similarly, the opening credits are inspired by Message From Our Sponsor by Jello Biafra. With initial concept approval, further initial development is required to intentionally deviate from these two inspirational references with suitably reworked variations to avoid potential copyright issues.

Full disclosure

This page and these projects may seem overly obvious, self explanatory, excessively linked, etc. Not only are these pages for TV1 producers, but they're illustrative of projects that anyone may create on Projex.Wiki, and might develop into suitable teaching tools for the Windsor Media Center and beyond.
